Growing, pains - Billie Myers

What a voice, what a voice, what a voice, what a voice...
Every year when I make my holiday trip I select a new CD to help me capturing all the holiday memories (I'm weird you see). For '98 I selected this album. I picked up the first hit single ' Kiss the rain ' on the radio and boy... It went straight to the top in my personal charts.
I like the drama in that song about missing a loved one, the guitars and Billies fabulous voice sounding so tortured by shady doubts. Wow man.
Luckily for me the album wasn't build around one great song. 'Tell me' (2nd single) was even a bigger winner and some more rock tinted pop songs ('First time' and 'Having trouble with the language') populate this album. I like them because Billies voice gets along so well with the music in these songs.
All the other songs are... softer... you know, rocky ballads. Some of them like 'You send me flying' (3rd single) and 'A few words too many' are not bad, but other songs just sound so average. The music isn't exactly that fascinating, it sounds so mainstream and Billies voice alone can not lift it up. It makes this album not a complete success.
For me, the first two singles are that great it justified buying the complete album and having as a bonus the other lesser great songs. After all, Billie has a great voice resembling Chers voice - but Billie has a cooler image what means you can adore this music without friends making a fool of you. Actually, I have to lend out this CD all the time - friends you know... .(Prinz William)

All soundclips are in Real Audio format. Quality may differ and is generally acceptable - though never as good as CD or MP3 music.
