Munki - Jesus & the Mary Chain
After many years of silence my favorite band releases a brand new album.
There was a real great party at my house (some people got drunk and some
arrested) and I bought 'Munki' the day it arrived in the shops.
It starts with the song 'I love rock'n roll'
and it all ends with 'I hate rock'n roll',
an older single 'I love the BBC, I love it when they're pissing on
me, I love MTV, I love it when they're shitting on me...'. Sounds
like my boys are back!
'Cracking up', my favorite song and 2nd single is
definitely a real killer song. It's a simple song featuring a very very addictive
riff and I love those cool lyrics (Some said I was a freak... I am a freak,
they said I was weak...'). They way this song kicks in... just too good to be
legal.
Several other beautiful and adorable pop songs grace the album too.
In my opinion J&MC is still one of the very few bands knowing the secret
of writing the perfect simple pop song. Listen to 'Dreamlover'
and 'Black' or 'I can't find the times
for times' and you know what I mean.
'Commercial' and 'Perfume'
on the other hand are songs I don't like. These few black spots prevent it from being
a true great album... but on the other hand, 10 to 12 songs out of the 17 are absolutely
top and that's not bad in fact.
