Dazsoo - Neon Judgement
Visiting record shops regularly, I discovered one day the best band in Belgium
had made a new album. You know, the band that just duly puts new albums into the
shops. No marketing.
I don't mind - I bought it.
Of course, this album is way ahead of it's time again. I can't say I like this one.
Not yet anyway.
By now I figured out it mostly contains electronic dance music, but not 'common'
dance music à la Technotronic.
The guitars are mostly in the shades now. It's mostly synths. And I'm having trouble
finding songs in the songs. It's just beeping and blurring music with some basic melodies
and some rhythm - but not much. Without doubt this is year 2017 music. I say so because
only now I'm somehow starting to like the 'At devil's fork' album released in 1995, an
album I received in those days with the same feelings as this one now.
So, the best band in Belgium have made an album and I still have to learn to like it.
This can take some time. But, if I'm honest, I'm afraid I have to say that The Neon
Judgement isn't musically anymore what they're used to be. Some songs still reveal
some brilliance, like 'Turki' which has a nice beat but
seemingly there wasn't enough interest to make it shine.
The single 'Jazzbox' is one of the better bits, together
with 'Mirror', my favorite if I have to name one and a
song that reminds me to earlier Neon glory days.
